A blind introduction can be challenging, particularly when it is for your next senior executive.

I am a former CEO of a nonprofit housing agency, which I turned around fiscally by $300,000 from a $50,000 deficit on an $850,000 budget, which I grew four-fold over six years. Yet, my work there was not about finances, but about resettling homeless and housing insecure people with right mix of support services necessary to help them relearn the social skills necessary to maintain housing independence. I accomplished this mission through revenue diversification and growth, as well as matching funding to programs necessary to fulfill agency goals.

In Jerusalem as Managing Director of The Media Line, an American Middle East news agency, included navigating inter-news agency rivalries, the Government Press Office, and helping to coordinate access for reporters and stringers in other Middle Eastern countries. This experience follows others networking with government and community groups – formal and informal – to create systems to address housing, poverty and homelessness. One aspect included organizing and leading “education” trips to governing capitols and legislatures on the state and federal levels, and internationally. Likewise, in Detroit, I worked on inter-communal efforts for people living in poverty and who are housing insecure, covering primarily African-American, Arab-American and Latino Detroiters.

My building communities work includes developing 250 units of housing for homeless Detroiters, including supportive services to assist residents in achieving and remaining housing independent. Projects in an impoverished and blighted neighborhood included creating a pocket park and a storm water management demonstration project, as well as rehabilitating affordable housing apartments for low-income families and people with disabilities.

In the philanthropy sphere, I have managed fundraising operations at academic and human services organizations, raising more than $85 million from grants, and corporate and individual gifts for various cause, including communal needs ($3,900,000), housing and human services ($19,807,000), academic excellence ($2,500,000), healthcare, disparities and medical research ($4,782,000), and capital projects ($54,925,000).

I have taught on the post-secondary level for 18 years in classroom, online and through independent study formats. My own research background (both qualitative and quantitative) informed the development of an evaluation process for programs and grants at the agency I led. My research work has included design, funding, implementation and write-up there, as well as at Henry Ford Health System and Wayne State University.

I also have developed applications, reported to funders and governing authorities, created and implemented budgets, and managed staff and office space. I have written and delivered reports to Boards of Directors, government and private funders, and assisted in the accreditation process, curriculum development, and faculty and administrative policies development. I have delivered numerous papers and presentations at academic conferences, prepared cases for support, case studies, grant proposals and reports, and corporate and legal documents I also have worked with different social media methodologies, as well as a variety of software packages.

My work style is to be creative for success, to encourage excellence and to be a team player, be we in the same pit or web connected. In other words, to be nice. I network well in and outside of organizations, bring many resources to bear with a “win-win” attitude for all involved. • Orchestrated $300,000 transition from a quarter-million-dollar deficit within 13 months.
