Despite government assurances that there will be no lack of basic supplies and stores will stay open in any event to provide people with supplies, there was still a huge rush to buy all available items at stores around Israel over the last few days.
Internet sites selling online foodstuffs such as the Supersol chain crashed as Israelis bought huge amounts of goods to prepare for hunkering down in the event that the government decides to close the economy and isolate people for an extended period. Ironically the large crowds of shoppers may have put themselves at more risk of infection due to their proximity to people who may be affected by the corona virus.
