DevOps / Platform Engineer

Hometalk Inc. is a tech-oriented media company. Hometalk, acquired in 2021 by VerticalScope Inc. (fora:tsx), owns, operates, and consistently develops thirteen high-quality websites for enthusiast communities on various topics.Hometalk has developed innovative in-house monetization technologies, email building and sending capabilities, A/B testing tooling, an in-house CMS, as well as tens of admin tools to continue to operate at the highest levels to serve millions of visitors daily. Our proprietary technology platform powers our network of high-speed websites, UGC capabilities, data-driven publishing tools, email infrastructure, and ad tech solutions to support our portfolio of brands. Our parent company VerticalScope is a technology company that has built and operates a cloud-based digital platform for online enthusiast communities. In this role, You will be working with both the the Hometalk team in Israel, and with the Verticalscope team in North America.

We are looking to expand our Devops team. In this role, you’ll help manage and improve the systems that power our applications, working closely with developers to make deployments faster, more reliable, and easier to scale. You’ll gain exposure to a variety of technologies, with opportunities to grow your expertise in cloud infrastructure, automation, and performance optimization.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

• Support and manage infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Operate and maintain Kubernetes clusters, ensuring smooth deployments and reliable services.

• Build automation and tools through Linux administration and scripting.

• Manage MySQL databases, including backups, monitoring, and performance tuning.

• Work with developers to support PHP applications in production.

• Configure and optimize Varnish for caching and performance.

• Troubleshoot infrastructure and application issues, escalating when needed.

• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines to improve developer productivity.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Native level English (you will be working with teams abroad)

• 2–4 years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability, or Platform Engineering

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production.

• Good working knowledge of GCP services (Compute, Networking, Storage, IAM).

• Proficiency with Linux systems administration and scripting (e.g. Bash, Python, or similar).

• Familiarity with MySQL administration and query optimization.

• Exposure to supporting PHP-based applications.

• Understanding of Varnish caching.

• Ability to work independently with a strong sense of ownership

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience with Elasticsearch for search and analytics.

• Knowledge of Redis for caching.

• Familiarity with Postfix or other mail server administration.

• ● Experience with monitoring/observability tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).

• ● Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.).
  
  

Full time. Hybrid role (Mondays & Wednesdays from our Jerusalem office).
The role requires flexibility with working outside of in-office hours.
